History
Udaipur, the city of dawn was founded in 1559 AD by Maharana Udai Singh. It is a lovely land around the azure water lakes with a fascinating blend of sights, sounds and experiences. Its kaleidoscope of splendid palaces, lakes, temples, gardens and narrow lanes carry the flavor of a heroic past epitomizing valor and chivalry.
Places of interest
City Palace : Explore the majestic architectural marvel that houses many courtyards, pavilions, terraces, corridors, rooms and hanging gardens. The main entrance is through the triple arched gate with eight marble porticos. The 'Mor Chowk' reputed for its exquisite peacock mosaics in glass and the 'Chini Chitrashala' noted for its blue and white ceramics are other attraction in the palace.
Fateh Sagar : Spend some time around this beautiful lake that is overlooked by a number of hills on the three sides and the Pratap Memorial on the north. Enjoy a boat cruise as you approach the Nehru Park, which is a lovely garden island located in the middle of the lake.
Lake Pichola : Hills, palaces, temples, bathing ghats and embankments surround the picturesque lake. Two island palaces, Jag Mnadir and Jag Niwas (Lake Palaces) on the lake are breathtaking magnificence. South of the palace, a pleasant garden runs along the lakeshore. Enjoy a boat cruise, which leave regularly from the City Palace jetty.
Saheliyon-ki-bari : (Garden of the maids of honor)
This small ornamental garden was a popular relaxing spot where royal ladies came for a stroll and hence the name came into existence. It has many fountains, chiseled kiosks and marble elephants that are sure to leave you spellbound.
Festive Fun
Marwar Festival
Take part in the ceremonial welcome to spring. A grand procession, which is an indispensable part of the festival, reflects the heights of festive spirits. Colorfully attired women, carrying the ../images of Goddess Parvati , songs, dances and firework display mark the festivities.
Excursions
Eklingji : Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the beautifully sculpted temple complex dates back to ancient time. It houses 108 temples within its high walls. The walled complex also encloses an elaborately pillared hall or 'mandap' under a large pyramidal roof and has four-faced image of lord Shiva in black marble that makes it a distinct place to visit and offer prayers.
Jaisamand Lake & Wildlife Sanctuary : Have a time of your life on this stunningly beautiful lake that is the second largest in Asia. Graceful marble chattris that flank the embankment and beautiful summer palaces built on the either side of the lake multiply its beauty in manifolds.
