Hyderabad, famous for the Char Minar, the Hyderabadi Biryani and its courteous people, is a city whose very foundations are based on love. According to history, Muhammad Quli built a huge structure, the Char Minar at the site of village Chichlam, the native place of his lover, Bhagmati. The site which was konwn as Bhagpur later came to be known as Hyderabad. One of the fastest growing IT cities in India, it is filled with medieval monuments, bustling avenues and huge shopping plazas. The main places around the city include Golconda, Warangal, Bidar and Nagarjunakonda.
Location and Climate :
Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh, is situated at an altitude of about 400 metres above sea level between 17.39 deg. N latitude and 78.47 deg. E longitude. The city is almost in the middle of India which makes it easily accessible from both northern and southern parts of the country.
The average temperature during the summer season remains around 40 degrees and that during the winters around 16 degrees. The monsoon season which extends from June to December registers an average rainfall of about 90 cms. The best time to visit the city, however, is from September to March.

The Charminar
The Charminar is a structure for which the city of Hyderabad is known, the world over. It was built by Muhammad Quli in 1591 to mark the spot where his lover, Bhagmati once lived. The structure is in the shape of a square with each side measuring 100 feet and four minarets that rise to a height of 180 feet from the ground. The whole structure contains a number of beautiful arches arranged both vertically and horizontally.
Mecca Masjid - Hyderabad
The Mecca Masjid
The Mecca Masjid, built by Muhammad Qutab Shah in 1617, is situated near the Char Minar. The huge structure has a big prayer hall that can accomodate nearly ten thousand men at a time. A particular stone brick in the mihrab is believed to have been brought from Mecca. The sacred stone enhances the importance of the place even more.
Husain Sagar Lake
The Husain Sagar Lake is a large artificial lake lying between Hyderabad and Secunderabad. It was built by Ibrahim Qutb Shah in the year 1550 to show her gratitude towards Husain Shah Wali.
Other tourist attractions in and around the city include Rang Mahal, Musi River, Golconda, Warangal and Bidar.
