Bangalore is one of the fastest developing cities in Asia and the seventh largest city in India. It is also known as the 'Garden City' because of its many beautiful gardens while it is also sometimes called the Silicon Valley owing to the ever increasing number of IT industries here. It is one of the most technically advanced cities in India and has recently been thronged by many IT giants from across the globe. Location and Climate
Bangalore is situated in the state of Karnataka in the southern part of India. It is 3,113 feet above sea level in the Karnataka plateau at a distance of about 998 km. from Mumbai, at an elevation of about 3,018 ft. from the sea level at 12.97° N 77.56° E.
The climate of Bangalore is moderate and generally remains pleasant throughout the year. Summers extend from the month of April to June with temperatures remaining around 33 degrees. Winters greet the city in the month of October and continue till February with temperature dipping, sometimes, to as low as 8 degrees. The city experiences rain from the south-west monsoon from June to August. The best time to visit the city is between October and February.
Tourist Attractions
Vidhan Soudha
The building built in a neo-Dravidian architectural style is one of the main attractions of the city. It was built in the year 1954 and presently houses the Legislative Assembly of the state of Karnataka and a part of the Karnataka secretariat.
Lal Bagh Gardens
Bangalore PalaceThe Lal Bagh Gardens houses a lot of red roses and some famous botanical species. The garden aquires a festive atmosphere during the flower shows organised here. It is on a must see list of tourists visiting the place.
Bangalore Palace
Built in the year 1887, the architecture of the palace is based on the Tudor style. Spread over an area of 800 acres, the palace is often compared to the Windsor Palace in England.
Tipu's Palace
Built in a traditional Mughal style, the fort and palace of Tipu Sultan are among the main attractions of the city. The construction of the fort was started by Haider Ali and completed by Tipu Sultan.
Other major tourist attractions in the city are Cubbon Park, Venkatappa Art Gallery, ISKCON temple, Shiva Statue, Bull Temple and the Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium.
How to Reach
By Air - The Bangalore Airport is situated at about 6 km. from the city centre and connects the city to other major cities, including Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Trivandrum, Panaji and Kochi, through regular flights.
Bangalore City By Rail - The main railway terminal is the City Railway station. Several super fast trains connect Bangalore to Chennai and other major Indian cities.
By Road - The main bus terminal is situated near the City Railway station. State transport and other private operators provide regular bus services connecting Bangalore to other major Indian cities.
Cars can be hired to travel around the city. Moving around in a car enjoying at the same time beautiful gardens, traditional bungalows and modern buildings is a unique experience. The excellent roads all around the city enhance the pleasure of driving.
