HOLIDYA RESORTS IN HIMACHAL
PRADESH
What makes Himachal Pradesh a specially interesting holiday destination is
its amazing cultural diversity. Each district has its own architectural style,
customs, dress and manner of life and for the visitor, there is something
different all along the way. Shimla or the Queen of Hill Stations as it is
often called is one of India’s most popular holiday resorts.
SKI RESORT RAMPUR, 132 km northeast from Shimla was once
a major trading centre with merchants coming in from China, Yarkhand and Tibet.
Even today, during the annual Lavi Mela. (November 11-14), people from remote
interior villages gather here to trade in livestock, woolen clothes and dry
fruit. One can also venture forth to Kasauli, 77 km southwest of Shimla with
its easy walks and excellent views of the plains and the Himalayas.
RESORTS OF CHAIL Established by the Maharaja of Patiala,
Bhupinder Singh, the charming resort of Chail at 2226 m lies surrounded by
stately deodhar forests , and in direct line of sight with Shimla, 61 km away.
Legend has it that when Bhupinder Singh was expelled from Shimla, he decided
to create his own summer capital at Chail, that too at a height greater than
the British summer capital. Chail is famous for its cricket pitch and polo
ground, the highest in the world at 2444 m. The Chail wildlife sanctuary has
deer and many varieties of jungle fowl.
