SWITZERLAND’S CLASSIC WALK
If fresh, clean air, beautiful villages set in a picturesque countryside, castles to explore, wonderful food and some of the best views on earth are your idea of a great vacation, Switzerland’s Classic Walk might just be your ideal vacation.
The walks will take you into well-known villages such as Gstaad. In the winter Gstaad is a ski resort for the rich and famous. In the summer, it is a lovely Swiss village surrounded by meadows of wildflowers and crystal clear lakes. It is a paradise for walkers. You will have plenty of time to explore the streets and shops of this world famous village in the evenings as your hotel is located right in the village.
On a clear day, you will have the opportunity to see the famous Eiger mountain. Eiger, along with Month and Jungfrau is one of the most famous mountains in the area.
You will also visit the village of Chateau d’Oex. Here you will have the opportunity to visit the castle of Chateau d’Oex, sitting on top of a hill with lovely views of the surrounding countryside. This area is known in the ballooning circles and a Hot Air Balloon Festival is held there during the summer. This village represents the perfect image of Switzerland with the sound of cow bells in the distance, chalets whose images could have come off a box of Swiss chocolates, multitudes of flowers, green meadows, mighty mountains in the distance and cobblestone streets.
You will travel through a nature reserve which is the home to many botanical species and much wildlife including wild goats, marmots and royal eagles. The eagles can sometimes be seen soaring over the valleys looking for prey.
Walks are between two and a half hours and five to six hours each day with stops for lunch and refreshment and to just take in the beautiful countryside.

Day 1
Geneva—Lenk. Transfer by mini bus from Geneva airport to Lenk (3 hrs). The small village of Lenk is situated at the foot of the Wildstrubel mountain range in an ideal location. You will arrive in time for evening dinner and welcome drinks at the hotel bar. Evening stroll to the lake and back (30 minutes). You may even have the chance to relax at the hotel’s indoor swimming pool and sauna. Followed by dinner, your guide will outline the week’s itinerary in more detail.
Day 2
After breakfast, you will be driven to Iffigenalp. (5200 ft), driving past the impressive Iffigwaterfalls. You will walk along the valley floor before gradually climbing to the crystal clear lake of Iffigsee. You continue climbing for a further hour to the impressive solid built Wildhorn hut in time for drinks and refreshments. Return journey via the Ifffighorn.
Day 3
Lenk—Lauenen (5 hrs). Today’s walk starts with the help of the Leiterli cable car to the Stoss. From here you will climb to the Leiterli and then follow the alpine flower trail to the Col. The views over the surrounding meadows and snow capped peaks, including the Wildhorn and Diablerets Glacier, are stunning. There are plenty of alpine restaurants to stop at for lunch. Then you descend to the small village of Lauenen with its romantic lake. Situated just 5 miles from the resort of Gstaad, Lauenen makes an ideal stop.
Day 4
Lauenen—Gstaad (approx 5 hrs). Today you will walk to the romantic Lauenen lake and back along the valley floor to Gstaad. In the winter, Gstaad is an elite ski resort accustomed to hosting royalty and celebrities. In the summer it is a paradise for walkers. You will have plenty of time to explore the streets of Gstaad.
Day 5
Lauenen—Chateau d’Oex (approx 5-7 hrs). One of the more challenging walks of the week. You will be driven to Gstaad and take the Eggli cable car to the Eggli (5200 ft). You then walk through the pastures and meadows towards La Videmanette. This is a beautiful part of the walk with great views over the Eiger on a clear day. Descend through La Pierreuse Nature reserve. You then arrive in the village of Chateau d’Oex. Chateau d’Oex represents a true image of Switzerland; picture-perfect chalets with flower-filled window boxes, brown cows with bells grazing in the pastures and cobblestone streets.
Day 6
Chateau d’Oex—Montbovon—Gruyeres Castle (4 hrs walking). Today will be more of a sightseeing day, giving you time to explore the castle of Chateau d’Oex, located on top of the hill. Hot air balloon capital of Switzerland, on a clear day a balloon ride is highly recommended. The walk follows the famous Corniche Trail. The last stretch involves a bus transfer to medieval Gruyeres. You can spend your last day looking around the impressive castle of Gruyeres and taste its fine cheeses. Gruyeres is perched at an altitude of 2600 ft and was formerly the regional seat of power, occupied from 1080 to 1554 by the nineteen counts of Gruyeres. The H.R. Giger museum is the permanent home of an impressive collection of the work of Swiss surrealist HR Giger, the Academy Award designer of Ridley Scott’s Alien.’ To view traditional cheese making and try’degustation’ or sampling. you can visit ‘La Maison du Gruyere.’ Having visited the town. you are transferred to the unique and relaxing hotel at Morlon. overlooking the Gruyeres Lake. Return is by the Panoram.11: Express train. which in itself is a unique experience.
Day 7
Your guide will transfer you from Morlon to Geneva at 10 o’clock approx 1
hr.
