Fishing is a popular recreational activity in most parts of the park, especially the Kuala Koh and Terengganu access points. Sungai Keniam, upstream from Kuala Tahan is one of the most popular fishing locations on the Pahang side. Perkai Lodge is also a good pct and mainly attracts fishing folk. Downstream from the cataracts at Lata Berkoh on Sungai Tahan there are several good deep fishing holes.
Permits are required for fishing in all the rivers of the park and may be obtained from Park HQ for a modest fee when visitors register to enter the park. Fishing traps are not permitted in Taman Negara.
Or the Kuala Tahan side of the park, fishing is restricted to Sungai Tahan below Lata Berkoh and Sungai Keniam below Kuala Keniam Kecil. The most suitable months for fishing are the drier months of February to April and July and August. At other times, rainfall may disturb the fishing.

Being the kelah (Malaysian Mahseer), the sebarau (Malaysian Jungle Perch), the tengas the toman (Greater Snakehead) and boung (various species of catfish).
From Kuala Koh Ranger Station fishing is good upstream on Sungai Lebir and Pertang. Both rivers are accessible during the dry season but during the monsoon end of October to end of January) boating is usually not possible due to the fast flow. Boats may be hired from the Ranger Station staff for which there is a daily charges for up to 3 people per boat. They also have fishing guides and camping equipment for hire. The journey up the river passes through some rapids, limestone cliffs and overhanging rainforest trees. There are several sandy banks and some deep holes, especially Lubuk Kaloi and Lubuk Kedah, that are very good fishing spots.
Fishing is the main activity in the Taman Negara waters of Tasik Kenyir on the Terengganu side. Sungai Cacing was once the most popular spot but it is no longer possible as the waters are protected for breeding purposes. Fishing boat charter is possible from various operators at the settlement of Pengkalan Gawi on Tasik Kenyir.
