The Ballina Street Festival and Arts Week is one of the most prestigious and family-orientated weeks in the Irish Calendar of Festivals. It literally has something for everyone!
Among the exciting range of events that will take place during the
Festival are the following:
The Lady of the Moy
The Lady of the Moy is the largest Pre-Festival event. The successful entrant, who will be chosen from the many young Ladies who are competing, becomes a celebrity for a week!
The Jazz Jamboree
Nationally renowned guests will partake in a mind-blowing jamming session with our own local talent. Ballina will resound to the melodies of BIG BANDS, DIXIELAND, BLUES AND JAZZ from every corner in a night that’s not to be missed!
Rock the Square
Rockin’ the Square will provide an opportunity for young emerging talent, to show what they can do. A renowned D.J. will spin the discs for an estimated 10, 000 young people in between the bands.
International Evening
Come and savour the atmosphere of Mexico, U.S.A. China, India, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Africa, Italy, France, and Spain. Sample the native quinine; quench your thirst with the local booze. Listen to the rhythms of native African drums, stroll down a boulevard in France, down some tequila in a Mexican cantina, discover the Egyptian pyramids, and visit a harem to see the wives or if you fancy, try your luck in the casino!
The Rag
A highlight of this event will be the foot-tapping music and dance on the streets. It will be a night for young and old!
The "Steam Up"
All forms of transport from yesteryear will line the streets as thousands look on in awe at the engineering marvels of our forefathers. The atmosphere will be enhanced by the strains of the Army Band.
Heritage Day
Ballina takes a step back in time as costume, music, stalls and varied arts and crafts will fill the streets. The main streets in the town will be pedestrianised to allow craftsmen like Wood turners, Glass blowers, Basket makers, Tinsmiths, Poteen makers and many, many more to display their skills.
It’s a Knockout
Fun! Fun! Fun! – A night of mayhem and madness as teams compete against each other in some of the wackiest games imaginable. Side splitting entertainment that includes a Monster Barbecue, and re-introducing the ever-popular Western evening.
Irish Night
A mini "Fleadh Ceoil", with music in every doorway, and dancing on every street. Musicians from all over the country attend to entertain the traditional way. Rounded of with a Ceile (traditional Irish Dance) in the marquee – ceoil, caint agus craic (Irish for music, chat and fun!).
The Mardi Gras
Ballina is home to Ireland’s only Mardi Gras. Colour, music, dance and costumes explode onto the streets in a riot of sound and light with a train of internationally renowned artists filling the town and culminating in one big party complete with a fireworks extravaganza.
A Day at the Races
Final fling is "The Races". A beautiful spacious trek complete with bars, amenities and entertainment for the children provide a wonderful family day out!
Don’t forget to mark this Festival into your diary!
The Ballina Street Festival is an event simply not to be missed!
