The Maldives really are ‘no news no shoes’ islands and not for those looking for culture and sophistication. Accommodation ranges from the simple to the understated elegant with services from friendly. polite (and laid-back!) staff, Most food and drink is imported, so menus are varied and well suited to the western palate. Fresh fish features stongly in Maldivian cuisine, with the local dish being a delicious fish curry, which can be sampled at most resorts. Seaplane transfers cannot be guaranteed as operation is subject to weather conditions. It may be necessary to stay overnight in Male or another nearby resort if international flights arrive late, as seaplanes do not fly after dusk. The wet season is between May and June and brings inclement weather which may limit water activities. The less mobile may find boat transfers, jetties and sand paths difficult.
