This tiny, parched island off the coast of Venezuela, has amazing, beaches, casinos, shopping mall and stunning white sand. The dry climate, salt spray and trade winds have created a wonderfully surreal landscape to explore.
The small southerly Dutch Caribbean island of Aruba lies just 18 miles off
the coast of Venezuela. A sophisticated island, offering excellent hotels,
superb restaurants and an abundance of water sports. The leeward side of the
island attracts the majority of tourist hotels and many of the best beaches,
including the popular Palm Beach and Eagle Beach.
The north and east coasts are somewhat more rugged, dotted with caves and
sand dunes. The capital Oranjestad is vibrant, good for shopping and Dutch
colonial in style. Carnival takes place over several weeks prior to Lent (usually
in February) with the most intense celebrations in Oranjestad. Aruba is not
really affected by hurricanes, and enjoys good weather (average 27 C) and
cool trade winds year-round. The peak tourist season is between mid December
and mid-April.
