Cuba’s love affair with the west was curtailed in 1959 by the introduction
of Castro and communism. A poor country, Cuba has a distinctive and lively
atmosphere and is now emerging from the shadows of recent decades by welcoming
a new generation of visitor. The resumption of Bayam large-scale tourism may
occasionally create problems, such as, construction work. last minute itinerary
changes, indifferent standards of service and transport, which may fall short
of European expectations.
Choice of consumer goods are limited, therefore take the necessary items with
you. As with all Caribbean island & adopting the local ‘laid back’ approach
will always help with any frustrating or time consuming situations.
Note : credit cards issued by US banks and certain credit
cards are not accepted in Cuba, although US dollars certainly are. Go year
keep in mind that winter. December to April, is the main tourist season, from
May to October it’s hot and rainy.
Havana
Cuba’s capital city dates back to 1519 and has been declared a’World Heritage Site’ by UNESCO. The city exudes an air of faded grandeur with elegant baroque and art deco architecture, vintage American cars and crumbling colonial mansions.
Varadero
Once a millionaires hideaway where wealthy Americans and even Mafia boss Al Capone used to holiday. Today Varadero is Cuba’s leading beach resort with modern hotels set along a 20 mile stretch of white sandy beach, approx. two and a half hours drive from Havana.
Guardalavaca
On the north-eastern shore of Cuba. around 75 minutes by road from Holguin Airport lie the beautiful palm fringed white sand beaches of Guardalavaca set against the impressive backdrop of the Sierra Madre mountains.
