SPAIN’S ANDALUSIAN WALK
The Andalusian Walk offers the adventurer an opportunity to explore Andalucia; its people, villages, farms, trees wildflowers, animals, birds, cuisine, its culture and its history. This is an immersion into the heart and soul of the Spanish country life that has all but disappeared. You will have the opportunity to see where the culture of Europe and the culture of North Africa met and influenced each other.
The Andalusian Walk starts from one of the most picturesque towns of Andalucia-Arcos de la Frontera. This ancient town was captured from the Moors by Alfonso the Wise in 1264 to become a Christian frontier fortress. Your journey takes you through an ancient no-mans-land, teeming with deer and wild boar, to the Moors’ frontier citadel of Jimena de la Frontera and finally to La Alumna, a distance of some 55 miles.
Nights are spent at a converted cortijo with its fine courtyard and high ceilings, a simple but comfortable country hotel, private houses at La Alumna. A special feature of this walk is your stay in a private ‘Victorian’ shooting lodge, with roaring log fires, located deep in the country surrounded by its own 400 acre deer forest. The views, ancient oak trees, cascading streams, and tranquility make this place very special.
The area abounds in Roe and Red Deer, ancient oak trees, wild rhododendrons, strawberry trees and cascading streams, along with an abundance of fresh air. It offers the traveler willing to adventure into it, the opportunity to enjoy the natural world, a step back into history and an escape from the pressures of modern life.
