NATURE PARKS:
Four Nature Parks are known as Nature Awareness Education and Information
Centres or Manali Van Vihar. The Himalayan Nature Park is at Kufri, Dhauladhar
Nature Park is situated in Gopalpur, and Katrain Alnus Park occupies Putlikuhl
within Kulu.
MINOR FOREST PRODUCE : Forests in Himachal Pradesh
provide a number of vaIuabIe products like timber, fuel wood, fodder and medicinal
herbs. The value of minor forest produce from the forests viz. resin. Katha
and medicinal herbs is almost Rs. 20 crores. Out of 3300 plant Spp of Himachal
Pradesh, 150 species are of medicinal value. Some fourteen medical herbs are
exploited annually in Himachal Pradesh which fetch Rs. 760 crores per annum
as against the investment of Rs. 36 crores. The herbs include Dioseorea, Karu,
Mushakbala Brahmi, Guchchi (black mushroom or morel), Mathi Patish, Kakar
Singhi, Kala Zira (black cummin), Kauri Patish. Berberis Roots, Neoza (pinenut)
and other species.
PEOPLES MOVEMENT FOR ECOLOGY: Van Vihar, Shimla,
is an apt example of the growing awareness and action among the people for
improving the environment of Himachal Pradesh. Van Vihar covers an area of
100 hectares in Summer Hill which represents a small, badly eroded hillock
called Potter’s Hill adjoining a forest belt. Van Vihar will provide opportunities
to the visitors to enjoy nature close to the Shimla city. Van Vihar will cater
to the needs of the people by providing sprawling lawns, children’s parks
and places for basking, viewing towers and also joy rides on horse back. Van
Vihar is also proposed to act as a bio-diversity Centre where godly rowed
with water fishing has trout Himalayan species will be protected and preserved.
The city eco-tourism Centre at Shimla will exhibit interpretive models depicting
the concern of Himachal Pradesh for conservation of nature.
WILD LIFE SAFARI PARK HIMACHAL PRADESH
WILD LIFE SAFARI PARK: Sirmour District has towering hills
forested with trees peculiar to the Shivalik ranges. A metalled road skirts
the Renuka Lake in Sirmour District which provides an occasion for many surprises
in a walk along the banks of the Lake. Enroute one can hear the roar of a
lion caged in its seven hectare Safari Park. This Wildlife Sanctuary is replete
with neelgais, ghorals, cheetals, grey and black partridges, red jungle fowls,
peakcocks, black bucks, etc. Besides this, three kilometres. circular road
girdling the lake, motorized and self-rowed non-motorised boats are available
for exploring the natural Renuka Lake.
