Day 1
On arrival at Durban International Airport in Kwazulu Natal, you will be met and assisted by a Spectrum Tour representative who will hand you the keys for your hired vehicle. Transfer to Mount Edgecombe. Situated 35km from Durban Airport and 3km from Umhlanga Rocks – South Africa’s famous beach resort on the Indian Ocean. Six, fully air-conditioned, luxurious en-suite rooms each with a balcony overlooking the golf course. Golf courses in the area include the Durban Country Club, Selbourne Country Club, Beachwood Country Club, Prince’s Grant Golf Estate, Point, Beechwood, Zimbali and Umhlali Golf Clubs. Optional excursions (to own account) can easily be taken into the nearby Drakensberg Mountains, through the typical sugar cane fields of the area, Durban City, Valley of 1000 Hills, Township, Shakaland Zulu Experience and the South Coast Banana Express (on board a vintage train). Day 2
Breakfast. Play golf at one of South Africa’s top golf clubs, the Durban Country Club. The course is a Parkland Links designed by George Waterman. The 12th Hole, Par 4 (297m) Stroke 18. 'Bunkers' is the name of this hole. A fairway that is lined with them makes this hole a great challenge; it will surely test your driving accuracy. Visitors are advised to tee off in the morning. Spend the balance of the day at leisure (lunch and dinner to own account). Overnight at Mount Edgecombe. (B)
Day 3
Breakfast. Drive south along the coast to Selbourne, one of South Africa’s premier golf estates for a day visit (allow approx: 1hr 10min travelling time). The 18-hole par 72 golf course, with its sweeping fairways and superb layout, provides a challenge for the more proficient golfer to match or better par, while offering the social player an enjoyable round. Play golf at Selbourne and spend the balance of the day exploring the area at your leisure (lunch and dinner to own account) before you return to Mount Edgecombe where you will overnight. (B)
Day 4
Breakfast. Play golf this morning at one of Mount Edgecombe’s two courses and then spend the balance of the day at leisure (lunch and dinner to own account). Course 1 is one of the few courses in South Africa designed to USPGA specification, which combines an interesting layout of attractive water features with forgiving roughs. An ecological wild bird haven has been created which is a delight to nature lovers. Golfers are enveloped in its natural splendor of tranquil green borders with lush indigenous shrubs. Course 2 has over 100 species of birds and ducks, a stream and the Pani Dam which all combine to create an idyllic backdrop for this 18 hole course. Course 2 is far more indulging and being of a linear nature results in a stunning design that is challenging but fair. Golf carts are compulsory on course 2 (R100 to own account). Day 5
Breakfast. Take a leisurely drive to Zimbali, situated near Ballito Bay (allow approx: 40 min traveling time). Zimbali offers a way of life, which, perhaps, defies description. A lifetime away, but only 42 km north of Durban on the lush sub-tropical coast of Kwa Zulu Natal you will find a haven of peace and quiet. An elegant, sophisticated yet totally unspoilt sanctuary. Points of interest include: Nature’s Playground – the Dolphin Coast, an expanse of golden beaches embracing the Indian Ocean and a panorama of waving sugarcane stretches from Zimbali in the South to the Tugela River in the North. This is the playground of the bottlenose dolphins that frolic in the waters close to shore and are visible all year round. Optional excursions (to own account) can be done to: Crocodile Creek, Ghandi‘s Temple in Tongaart, Zulu Battlefields, Chaka’s Rock and the Indian market. All meals at your leisure (to own account). Day 6
Breakfast. Play golf this morning at Zimbali and then spend the balance of the day at leisure (lunch and dinner to own account). The American “maverick” golf course architect and former British and South African Open Champion, Tom Weiskopf, is the only living designer to boast five among the world’s top 100 courses. More than 3,000 indigenous trees have since been planted around the 18 holes, where the well-known 13th is the signature hole. Golf carts are compulsory (R140 to own account). Overnight in Zimbali. Day 7
Breakfast. Drive to Prince’s Grant for a day visit and play this highly rated golf course (allow approx: 1hr travelling time). Situated right on the beach this stunning golf course is a “must” to play. The 19th hole is where you will find “Mulligans Pub” which overlooks the first, tenth and eighteenth holes with breathtaking views of the sea as a backdrop. Spend the rest of the day at leisure (lunch and dinner to own account) before you return to Zimbali where you will overnight. (B)
Day 8
Breakfast. Play golf again at Zimbali and then enjoy the day at leisure (lunch and dinner to own account). Overnight in Zimbali. (B)
Day 9
Breakfast. Transfer to the Durban International Airport for your flight to
Johannesburg. Return your rental car at Durban Airport. Flight booked by you.
On arrival in Johannesburg – city of gold, you will be met and transferred
(2hr drive) to Bakubung Game Lodge. Bakubung is situated next to the “
Malaria
free” Pilanesberg Game Reserve, which contains the “Big Five” and
is only a 10-minute drive from Sun City – the Las Vegas of Africa. Golfers
therefore have the opportunity to play golf at Sun City during their safari
experience. Dinner at the lodge restaurant or under the starry African sky
and overnight at Bakubung Lodge. (B,D)
Day 10
Breakfast. Day at leisure at the lodge (lunch to own account). Lie by the swimming pool and relax while listening to the sounds of the African Bushveld. Optional game drives can be arranged (own account). Dinner and overnight at Bakubung Lodge. (B,D)
Day 11
Breakfast. This morning you will be transferred to Sun City (approx: 10-min drive). Play golf at The Gary Player or Lost City courses after which you can be transferred back to Bakubung, or you may like to stay in the Sun City complex for dinner and try your luck at the casino or enjoy an “Extravaganza Show” (all to own account - Booking essential). The Gary Player Country Club course at Sun City has become known all over the world as the venue for the annual Million Dollar Challenge. Most of the games superstars have graced the fairways of this magnificent bushveld course, carved out of an extinct volcano in the wild and wonderful Pilanesburg Mountains, and surrounded by high ground on all sides. Gary Player firmly believes he has managed to create one of the top courses in the world at Lost City Golf Course, with its desert style front nine and ‘Out of Africa' back nine. ‘For me a great course is one you remember,' he says, ‘If you go to Augusta National and you play it once, you will always remember each and every hole. And I think the same applies to the Lost City.' Overnight at Bakubung Lodge. (B)
Day 12
Breakfast. Enjoy your last day at leisure at Bakubung (lunch to own account). Optional game drives can be arranged or another game of golf at Sun City (own account). Dinner and overnight at Bakubung Lodge. (B,D)
Day 13
Breakfast. At around 12h00 you will be collected from Bakubung and transferred to the Johannesburg International Airport for you flight back home. En-route, you can stop off at what is considered to be the biggest curio market in Africa where you can catch up on some last minute shopping if time permits. Tour ends. Day 14
Breakfast. Play golf this morning at either Steenberg or Royal Cape Golf Clubs. The remainder of the day will be at your leisure with lunch and dinner to own account. Suggested activities after golf include (to own account): a visit to the Simonstown Penguin Colony followed by Cape Point Nature Reserve (allow a minimum of 3 hours); Early evening go shopping at Century City’s Canal Walk, Cape Town’s most popular shopping Mall. Overnight at the Commodore Hotel. (B)
