Day 1
On your arrival at Durban International Airport, you will be met and assisted by a Spectrum Tour representative. You will be transferred to a guesthouse situated along the tropical, South Coast, about a 40-minute drive – depending on traffic. Freshen up at your guesthouse followed by the day at leisure (a tour of Durban City can be arranged at an additional cost.) Lunch and dinner will be at your leisure (to own account). Overnight at a guesthouse near the Aliwal Shoal. Flight booked by you.
Day 2
Enjoy an early morning dive on the Aliwal Shoal followed by breakfast. The Shoal runs in a north to south direction and is a little less than 5 kilometers long. It is home to a large variety of fish, coral, and mammalian life forms. The reefs location is on the inner edge of the warm Mozambique current which allows for excellent visibility. Depths range from 6m to 30m and in winter, water temperatures range from 18-21 degrees. From July to December, the Ragged tooth Shark is found in large numbers on the Aliwal Shoal, making for a great diving experience. Apart from the excitement of 'Raggie Season' the shoal has a resident population of Turtles, Rays, Manta's, Butterfly fish, and Angel fish. A second dive will be after breakfast followed by the afternoon at leisure. Relax while you gaze at the sparkling Indian Ocean or take a walk along the beautiful, white, sandy beach. Lunch and dinner will be at your leisure (to own account). Overnight at a guesthouse near the Aliwal Shoal. (B)
Day 3
Breakfast. Depart for Zululand, north of Durban and home to the great historical Zulu king - Shaka. Stop at St. Lucia - part of the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park, a world heritage site. Here you will embark on a two hour boat cruise, on the estuary, giving you opportunity to view hippo, crocodiles and a wide variety of bird life. There will be a light sandwich lunch on board (drinks to own account). Lake St Lucia joins the Indian Ocean and is inhabited by about 2000 crocodiles and 800 hippos; this eco-system is over 14 million years old. After the cruise continue north, to the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Park area. Enjoy an early dinner (drinks to own account) before heading out into the African bush for a guided, night game drive in a safari vehicle. South Africa’s oldest game reserve, Hluhluwe is home to the “Big 5”, as well as other animal and bird species. Overnight at a lodge in Hluhluwe. (B,L,D)
Day 4
Breakfast. Transfer east to Sodwana Bay. Home to the Coelacanth, Sodwana Bay
offers great scuba diving. Lying within the boundaries of The Greater St Lucia
Wetland Park, Sodwana Bay provides the traveling diver with a vast array of
unspoilt coral reefs, populated with a huge diversity of Indo-Pacific fish
and invertebrates including sharks and whale sharks (in season). Water temperatures
range from 29 (mid Summer) to 19 (mid Winter) degrees C and the area is divable
all year round. Average visibility is about 15 to 20m. The afternoon will
be at leisure with lunch to your own account.
Relax at the pool, suntan on the beach or walk through the beautiful park
area. Optional excursions that can be arranged to your own account include:
Sundowners at Lake Mgoboseleni; Horse Rides; 4 Wheeler rides through the forest
and Dolphin trips. The area is covered with dense coastal forest offering
exquisite scenery, bird watching, and a number of small mammals including
Bush Babies, Genets, Duiker and striped mongoose. The Mgoboseleni Trail is
a lovely, light hike taking about 1 to 2 hours that can be done from the campsite.

Day 5
Early morning dive to one of many dive sites on 2 Mile reef. This reef is
about 2 km long and about 900m wide. The average depth of the reef is 14 –
16m with Deep Sponge being the deepest dive (28m+). Because of its size, 2
Mile offers something for everyone from large amounts of fish, to wonderful
invertebrates. There are plenty of caves and overhangs to explore. Return
to the lodge for breakfast and then head back to the beach for a second dive
to 2 mile. Depending on your diving qualifications, dives can be arranged
to further reefs for a minimal charge to your own account: 5 Mile – a deeper
dive site, recommended for advanced divers. Enjoy amazing coral diversity
and see the shyer fish that live here. 7 Mile – a must for more advanced divers;
this reef drops from 15m to 24m and is sheltered from the open ocean. 9 Mile
– the most untouched reef, its deepest point being about 23m, this dive site
boasts a huge outcrop of Green Tree Coral.
Watch out for Dolphins on the way to the dive sites. After lunch (to own account),
relax on the unspoilt beach or take a walk to the craft market. The Zulu ladies
are known for their weaving abilities and make the most beautiful baskets.
Try a ripe, fresh pineapple cut perfectly by the ladies for easy eating. Dinner
(drinks to own account) and overnight at a lodge in Sodwana Bay. (B,D)
Day 6
Breakfast. Travel to the border of Mozambique. Once through the border, transfer to Ponta do Ouro, a popular diving destination. Visas can either be arranged in Pretoria should guests stay over in Gauteng prior to traveling to Kwazulu Natal or they can be obtained at the Mozambique border. (We suggest that clients obtain their visas in Gauteng). Lunch will be en route (to own account). On arrival, spend the rest of the day exploring this magnificent area. 18 different high quality offshore coral reefs, big game and small fish, clean white beaches, and unspoilt forests will make your stay in Southern Mozambique unforgettable. Dinner (drinks to own account) and overnight at a lodge in Ponta do Ouro. (B,D)
Day 7
Early morning dive followed by breakfast and then a second dive on one of the reefs off Ponta do Ouro. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure to relax with a drink while you share stories of the wonderful diving you have experienced so far. Lunch will be at your leisure (to own account). Dinner (drinks to own account) and overnight at a lodge in Ponta do Ouro. (B,D)
Day 8
Breakfast followed by a full day at leisure with lunch to your own account. Additional dives can be booked to your own account. Dinner (drinks to own account) and overnight at a lodge in Ponta do Ouro. (B,D)
Day 9
Breakfast. You will be transferred back to the Mozambique border and then
on to Richards Bay for your onwards flight.
