Reality Check
Most of Brazil has a comfortable climate throughout the year: however, the south can get unbearably sticky in summer (December to February). Credit cards are accepted across the country but be aware that ATMs don’t handle every type of card. Cambios operate in all but the smallest towns. When changing cash or travellers cheques ask for lots of useful small-denomination notes. Haggle in markets and for unmetered taxis. Talk football for a friendly welcome everywhere. Portuguese is the main language.
