There are many good swimming holes in all four access sides to Taman Negara. In Bahasa Malaysia, these are called lubuk, but there are many other parts of the rivers that offer good swimming opportunities. Caution needs to be exercised, especially near rapids where there may be strong and dangerous currents. The rivers should not be used during periods of flooding.
Sungai Tembeling is not considered the best as the current is strong and the water is not clear. But there are several operators offering tyre tube floats for a relaxed and safe way of floating down parts of the river. Life jackets are also provided.
The best swimming rivers on the Pahang side are the tributaries of the Tembeling such as the Tahan, Trenngan, Keniam and Perkai. The waters here are clear despite being slightly brownish and there are swimming holes of varied depths. The rapids at Lata Berkoh are very good for a natural jacuzzi. Two swimming holes, Lubuk Simpon (20 minutes from Kuala Tahan) and Lubuk Lesong (two hours from Kuala Tahan), both on the Sungai Tahan, are considered the best and most accessible swimming locations.
