The tour is based around a series of twelve panels which are located throughout North Leitrim at sites of historical and environmental importance. Each panel has information and visual images pertaining to the site. A visitor information guide has also been produced to accompany the tour.
Tempted to take a step back in time?
The information guide presents information and images on the twelve sites with many fascinating facts on the area. Kinlough is linked to "The Spanish Armada" and a fascinating tale of adventure; nine survivors found refuge in The McClancey fortress in Kinlough, which they subsequently defended against a battalion of English soldiers. Their leader then made the hazardous journey back to Spain, where he recorded his experiences in North Leitrim. "The Annals of The Four Masters", a complete history of Ireland up to 1616, was written near Kinlough.

Nature lovers will also find much to satisfy their passion, with the proliferation of Alpine flora in the area, a relic of the last ice age. Romantics will revel in the rich mythology associated with our area.
North Leitrim is also home to a thriving artistic community with "The Sculpture Centre" located in Manorhamilton. Linked to our trail is the innovative Sculpture trail , a series of unique pieces located on the shores of Lough McNean.
