RANTHAMBHORE TIGER RESERVE
Ranthambhor
Tiger Reserve lies at the junction of the Aravalis and the Vindhaya,
standing out conspicuously in the vast arid and dry tract of eastern
Rajathan, barely 14 kilometers from Sawai Madhopur.
It spreads
over a highly undulating topography varying from the gentle to steep slopes,
from flat topped hills of the Vindhyas to the conical hillocks and the sharp
ridges of the Aravalis, from wide and flat valleys to narrow rocky gorges.
The National Park is fed by the river Chambal in the south and the Banas in
the north.
Pure stands of the 'flame of the forest' interspersed
with open grasslands at the pleasures, six large lakes - Gilai sagar,
Lahpur, Mansarovar, Malik Talao, Raj Bagh and Padam Talao within the
National Park. Tiger being at the apex of the food chain, rules the animal
kingdom in a subtle way. Solitary by nature, it operates stealthly.
Therefore tiger sightings, frequent as they are, are always a matter of
chance.
The other cats found in Ranthambhore are Leopard, Caracal,
Leopard cat, Fishing cat and the Jungle cat, Besides the big cats, the other
predators of Ranthambhore are Sloth beer, striped hyena, Jackal, Desert fox,
Palm civet, Common mongoose, Crocodile, Python etc. There are two species of
deer animely the Spotted Deer & Sambhar and the two kinds of antelopes
namely the Indian Gazelle ( Chinkara) and the Bluebull (Nilgai).
Ranthambhore is also very rich in birdlife with more than 250 species of
birds. Some of the more interesting resident species of birds are large
cormorant, painted spurfowl, sarus crane, bronze winged jacana, sandpiper,
kingfisher, nightjar, painted snadgrouse, great horned owl and many more
regular winter migrants which come from their nesting grounds north of
Himalayas to Ranthambhore and surrounding areas.
Besides tiger,
there are many other animals to observe, understand and enjoy. Graceful
spotted deer, huge sambhar, crocodiles basking around the banks of the
lakes, vultures soaring in the sky, crested serpent eagle scanning the
ground from it's perch or the kaleidoscope of water fowl at the pools are
all the interest for a visitor with sensitivity. Ranthambhore is a great
experience in totality and Tiger Den Resort will enhance this experience by
making it comfortable and worthwhild.
We organise jungle visits in
4WD jeeps and open trucks known as canters. A nature guide who is well aware
of the flora and fauna of the park accompanies each vehicle and sometimes
also has a tiger staked out. For birders there are options of nature walks
around Surwal lake, mansarovar lake, Chambal river or even a walk outside
the resort one can get a lot of arid scrubland species. Ranthambhore Fort
offers history that is 1000 years old and is worth a visit. Tiger Den Resort
promises to make your stay unique and a memorable one.
