Ballooning is considered as a most fancy sport in India.

A balloon is 1,000 sq. yards of rip stop nylon, an average Balloon is 50 feet wide 70 feet high and 57,000 cubic feet in volume, large versions are also available. The Balloon is attached to the basket by steel ropes, the basket itself is made of resilient wicker and strengthened by a cross weave of metal ropes. Cylinders of propane or butane fire burns located at the mouth of the Balloon. When cold air is blown into its mouth by a fan and the burners lit, a jet flame furnishes the hot air that gets the balloon airborne. By regulating hot and cold air, the pilot can steer the balloon along any chartered course. Commercial balloon rides are yet to be made available in India. Balloonists require permissi0T1 -from the Balloon Club of India before floating out.

The Balloon Club of India at Delhi's Safdarjung Airport is the tail off point and headquarters for this aero-sport.

The Indian International Balloon festival is held every November and attracts participants from all over the world.
