Sat Tal Forest Resort in Uttaranchal
Uttarkhand is called the abode of the Gods, and in SatTal, you experience

(SFR) with its unique location, nudges the mind to completely unwind
and rest, as it offers unmatched views of the lakes, the mountains
and of course, the forest all around.
Views
SatTal is a cluster of seven interconnected tarns set amidst forested
hills. The three main lakes are Ram, Laxman and Sita. The lakes are
at 4000ft above mean sea level and are one of the most beautiful and
pristine lake clusters in the kumaon region. The resort is a short
1km drive up to the hilltop at the height of 5000ft above sea level
and overlooks the lake cluster and the thick pine and Oak forest surrounding
it. Flora and fauna abound and the area is a bird watchers paradise.
All Season Resort
All Season Resort The weather remains excellent all through the year
and SatTal Forest Resort is therefore an ideal get away anytime one
chooses. Like in most hill station, the best of everything is found
between Sept - Nov and Feb - April. However, the monsoons for many
are clearly the best. It’s not only the flowers in full bloom,
but also the ever-changing scenery offered by the moving clouds and
the mist that keeps one completely enthralled. Winters are clear and
bright and evenings fog free. The climate is ideal for serious trekking
and bird watching. The snowfall on the hills all around the resort
places you in the ideal situation of experiencing the snowfall without
being discomfited by it. The early morning views after a fresh snowfall
are a treat not to be missed.
Flora and Fauna:
Uttarkhand is blessed with an extremely wide variety of flora and
fauna. The sub tropical zone, upto an altitude of 4000 ft above sea
level, is home to sal forest, the flame of the forest, jacaranda and
yellow laburnum. Sattal Forest Resort is at an altitude of about 5000
ft where pines begin to dominate, along with Oak. Popular fruit trees
are plums and peaches. Floral species include geraniums, asters,
lilies, roses, anemones, marigold, primula, gerberas, dahlias,
hydrangeas, gladiolas, passion fruit and many more. An amazing range
of medicinal plants and herbs also grow in this part of the state. Do
check out our own little spice garden for samples of lemon grass,
mint, basil, thyme, rosemary, chives, marjoram, common coriander,
green chillies in addition to the sweet neem and lemon trees.
Uttarkhand
has amazingly varied bird life. Some 230 varieties of birds are found
here, some only in SatTal region. You can spot babblers, tits,
bulbuls, warblers, minivets, woodpeckers, pigeons , myna and the
colourful barbets. At the resort, the sunbird, the red billed magpie,
the jungle myna, the long tailed minivet and Himalayan bulbul are your

The
picture above is of the largest moth in the world called Atlas Moth.
This moth came visiting the Sattal Forest Resort on 22 July 2007. The
wing span was approx 10 Inches. We let it fly away, but this bright
ruby red winged moth is known to be a prized collection piece for
insect connoisseurs. The area abounds in butterflies and you can visit
one of Asia’s largest collection of Butterflies and moths at the
Freddy’s House when you go trekking to Bhimtal. Animal life
abounds in the region. Sighting pine martens and various species of
deer is normal. .
Accommodation Details
Cottages:
The resort offers well-appointed cottage type
accommodation, with fully equipped kitchen and drawing/dinning room
areas. All bedrooms have attached baths with running hot water. All
bedrooms have lake view. You have a choice of a two bedroom cottage,
with its private verandah and living room and attached kitchen. Or you
have a large one bedroom cottage with a large living room that can
accommodate accompanying kids.
Verandahs and Gardens:
All cottages are surrounded by carefully manicured gardens and
terraces for a great unhampered view of the forested hills and the
lakes. Expansion is underway to offer choices of 3 bedroom cottages as
also 4 bedroom option. All rooms have independent access to the
verandah/terraces and to common areas.
