Activities

Unwind with nature:
Come to SFR to be with yourself, against the backdrop of the peace and beauty that the surroundings offer. You will be surprised how fast you unwind, despite the road journey you have just completed. Experience the welcome by the gentle breeze and if you are lucky, by the clouds that routinely pass by. Let the views take your breath and stress away. Let the body be pampered by the comfort that the resort offers, the nature is in abundance to rest your soul. Best place to just chill. Give yourself a day and feel the painter, the writer, the poet, the singer or the musician

Trekking & Boating:
The desire to touch and feel the forest may see you setting off to Bhimtal (a pleasant 2 hrs trek, past June Estate), or a leisurely walk to the waterfall, just off the SatTal lake (time…you really care?) or go boating in the SatTal lake with a friendly know-all boat man. If you are there on a full moon night with your loved one, you may want to set-up a late night boat ride. Divine!!!
Got another day to spare? Take a walk to the pine forest, visit the temple en route or take a picnic hamper to the Garuda Lake, a short ride from the main SatTal lake cluster. This lake is also called Panna or Emerald Lake because of the reflection of the surrounding green forest on the clear blue water of the lake. Kids just love to feed the very visible and well fed fishes in Nal Damyanti Lake, a short drive away. Do not miss the opportunity to visit Freddy’s house, stated to be one of Asia’s biggest collection of butterflies and moths, named after its curator and collector, Mr Fredrick Smetacek.

Bird Watching :
The area is a birdwatchers paradise. We thank Mr Sumit Sen, avid birdwatcher, for the pictures of birds he spotted in and around the resort. See trip report by Mr Bikram Grewal, noted birdwatcher at kolkattabirds.com

Day Excrusion From The Resort:
If and when you succumb to the pressure of visiting Nainital (23 kms), do take the ropeway to the snow viewpoint to see the majestic Himalayas and afterwards, enjoy the dosa, burger and pizza, all out of the same outlet, with some hot Nescafe. Did we hear someone say, “it only happens in India!!!”? Well thank God for that. And do not forget to visit the roadside bazaar by the lake leading unto the famous Nainadevi temple. We like to call this street “the magic street” as the best magic tricks are sold here and that too at a throwaway price. This is a comfortable day trip and you can even stop at Bhowali fruit market en route to pick up the choicest fruit of the season.

By now if your appetite for lakes and the famous Kadi Chawal and Kheer found in all the dhabas is not satiated, head for Naukuchiatal, or the lake with nine corners (14kms) or Bhimtal (12km on the same route).Or you could go for a day trip to Ramgarh and Mukteshwar. Thejourney is clearly better than the destination. As you pass through fruit laden trees you can catch a glimpse of the majestic Himalayas, if lucky.

Indoor Activities:
Just the day preceding departure, you may want to catch up on your reading, or watch one of the latest (or better still, a very old) movies or get some news just to bring yourself to realities. Do so from the comfort of your own living room. Should we or should we not thank the Dish TV in getting you the news and saas bahu serials even in a forest? We give you the choice

Want some brainwork? Try our Chess and Caroms board or try a game of scrabble. Take out the Dartboard or a pack of cards. Or get into action for a game of table tennis or croquet. Got a week? You can actually relax and spend quality time with family, practice Yoga, take a simple walk to Suryagaon, the nearest village, for some local flavour. Take a walk down towards SuryaJhala, the village where the locals moved for cultivation. If you are lucky you may spot pine martens and deer. Spend evenings under the star lit skies by the bonfire and wonder when you last saw so many stars?

The Resort as Base to Cover Uttarkhand:
SatTal offer the ideal base location to cover the upper reaches of kumaon. The most popular destinations are Ranikhet, Almora, Binsar, Kausani, PatalBhuvneshwar, Jageshwar, Choukori and Munsyari. Jageshwar is a cluster of 124 temples, most important being Jageshwar Jyotirling. Other temples in the complex are Maha Mrityunjaya, Navagrah, Pawantsut Hanuman, Nava durga, Mahakali, Kuber Mandir and Surya Temple.

Patal Bhuvneshwar: Shankaracharya discovered this cave complex in 9th Century AD and installed a lingam inside it. Since then regular puja is conducted in the cave. The present family of priest have been conducting puja here for nearly 900 years. An absolutely fascinating journey to the village of patal bhuvaneshwar and to the caves is a must. The cave is 100ft below ground level and houses an amazing number natural rock formation of Gods and Godesses. There are a thousand stories to be told around the rock and stalactites formations inside this cave complex. Not to miss.

Munsyari: An amazing journey past beautiful lakes, waterfalls and thick forest takes you to the Panchauli peaks at munsyari. The majestic Himalayan range seems to be at a touching distance. Experience Uttarkhand in all its true colors.
