Detailed day by day itinerary
Day1 - Chennai Arrive at Chennai. Pick up from
station / airport and proceed to check in hotel. In the evening visit
Mylapore to visit the famous Kapaleeswarar Temple, which is dedicated to
Lord Shiva. It has a typical Dravidian gopuram. Proceed to the Triplicane
High Road to visi the Parathasarathy Temple, dedicated to Lord Krishna.
Overnight at hotel in Chennai.
Day 2 - Chennai -
Kanchipuram - MamallapuramIn the early morning drive 71 km to reach
Kanchipuram. Kanchipuram is a city of thousand temples. Kanchipuram the
golden city of a thousand temples. The city was also a great seat of
learning. Sri Sankaracharya, Appar, Siruthonder and the great Budddhist
Bhikku lived, and worked here. Reach there and proceed to visit the
Vaikuntha Perumal Temple (An important Vishnu temple built by the Pallava
King Nandivarman Pallavamalla, in the 7th century AD). Proceed for the
Kailasanatha Temple and Ekambareswarar Temple (The 57 metre high
Rajagopuram, is one of the tallest towers in South India). Also visit the
Devarajaswamy Temple where the shrine of Devarajaswamy is located on an
elephant-shaped rock called Hastagiri. Proceed to visit the Kamakshi Amman
Temple (This is one of the three holy places of Shakti worship in India).
Proceed to visit the Sakkiswarar Temple. After the full day excusrion at
Kanchipuram temples, visit the market to shop for some silk fabrics. Later
in the late afternoon proceed for the beach resort, Mamallapuram. Check in
hotel. Overnight at hotel in Mamallapuram.
Day
3: Mamallapuram - Pondicherry In the morning enjoy the beach. Later
proceed to visit the Shore Temple and Five Rathas. Drive onwards to
Pondicherry (110 km). Check in hotel at Pondicherry. Visit Auroville
(Aurobindo Ashram). Overnight at hotel in Pondicherry.
Day 4: Pondicherry - Chidambaram - Pichavaram - ChidambaramIn the
morning proceed for Chidambaram (104 km). Check in hotel. Later proceed to
visit the famous Lord Nataraja Temple. After puja and darshan, drive to
Pichavaram (16 km), which is a place of rare scenic beauty with its serene
backwaters dotted with dense mangrove forests. Get back to Chidambaram.
Overnight at hotel in Chidambaram.
Day 5:
Chidambaram - Thanjavur - Tiruchurapalli In the morning proceed for
Thanjavur (110 km). Thanjavur is the home of Karnatic music. Proceed to
visit the Brahadeeswarar Temple. Later drive on to Tiruchurapalli (60 km).
Check in hotel. Proceed to visit the Rock Fort Temple, Srirangam (Sri
Ranganathaswamy Temple) and the Jambukeshwara temple at Tiruvanaikkaval.
Overnight at hotel in Tiruchurapalli.

6 - Tiruchurapalli - Dindigul - Madurai In the morning drive to
Madurai (142 km) via Dindigul. From Dindigul you proceed towards Palani to
visit Arulmigu Dandayudapani Swamy Thirukoil,(famous Murugan Temple).
Proceed towards Madurai and check in hotel. Overnight at hotel in Madurai.
Day 7 - Madurai - Rameshwaram - Madurai Early
morning perform puja at the Shree Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple at Madurai
(The Meenakshi temple is an excellent example of Dravidian architecture,with
gopurams or multi pillared halls, covered from top to bottom,in a profusion
of multicoloured ../images of gods, goddesses, animals and mythical figures).
Proceed for Rameshwaram (222 km). Visit the Ramanathaswamy Temple (close to
the sea, on the eastern side of the island, is this 17th century temple,
renowned for its magnificent pillar corridor, running to a length of 1200
metres, and flanked by ornate pillars. This is the longest corridor in
India.). Procceed for Agnitheertham, Gandamadana Parvatham and Dhanushkodi.
Late in the evening return to Madurai and overnight at hotel in Madurai.
Day 8 - Madurai - Tirunelveli - Kanyakumari
In the morning proceed for Tirunelveli (151 km). Stop there to visit the
Krishnapuram Structures at the Venkatachalapathy Temple at Krishnapuram
village and also visit the Swamy Nellaiappar Temple and Kanthimathi Ambal
Temple. Later proceed for Kanyakumari (91 km). Overnight at hotel in
Kanyakumari.
Day 9 - KanyakumariEmbark
on a sightseeing trip of Kanykumari. Visit the Kumari Amman Temple and also
the Vivekananda Rocks. The Kumari Amman temple, here, is dedicated to
Parvati as Devi - Kanya - the virgin goddess who did penance to obtain the
hand of Lord Shiva. Two rocks reach out of the ocean, south-east of the
Kumari Amman temple. One of these is Sri Padaparai, where the footprints of
the virgin goddess are to be seen.
On this rock, Swami
Vivekananda is said to have sat in deep meditation; and here stands the
Vivekananda Rock Memorial, built in 1970. From here the great Swami started
his journey to revive India and the world. Overnight at hotel in
Kanyakumari.
Day 10 - Kanyakumari - Trivandrum
In the morning proceed for Trivandrum (80 km). Drop to airport / station for
onward journey.
