North East Buddhist Pilgrimage
Duration : 8 days and 7 nights
Destinations: Guwahati, Nameri, Tawang, Bomdila, Tezpur
Detailed day by day itinerary
Day 1: Guwahati
Arrive at Guwahati. Pick up from station /airport and transfer to hotel.
Guwahati is located by the river Brahmaputra. Later embark on sightseeing
of Guwahati by car. You visit the Kamakhya Temple, the Nabagraha Temple
(temple of nine planets) and Umananda Temple situated on the Peacock Island
in the middle of Brahmaputra River. Overnight at hotel in Guwahati.
Day 2: Guwahati - Nameri
After breakfast drive to Nameri National Park (240 km) .Near the Jia Bhoroli
river, the Nameri National Park sprawls over from Assam to Aruachal Pradesh.
The best way to travel within the Park is atop elephants. There are no
roads inside the park. The park is home to the Mithun or Indian bison
and the rare White Winged Wood Duck, among the most endangered avian species
in the
world. Jungle safari inside the park. Overnight at Eco-tourist camp inside
the park.
Day 3: Nameri - Bomdilla
In the morning travel to Bomdila (110 km), which is situated at a height
of about 8000 feet and is inhabited by tribes - Monpa, Sherdukpen, Miji
and Aka. Monpas and Sherdukpens are followers of Buddha. Enroute visit
the Orchid Museum at Tipi. Here more than 500 different varieties of orchids
are identified. Visit the Miji tribal village, Sherdukpen tribal village
and monastery. Overnight at hotel in Bomdilla.
Day 4: Bomdilla - Tawang
In the morning visit Tawang (190 km) the birthplace of 6th Dalai Lama.
Enroute visit Dirang-Monpa village and monastery. Proceed for Tawang crossing
the Se La Pass at a heigth of 14,000 feet. It is the second highest motorable
road in India. Proceed to visit the famous Nuraneng battle field of 1962
India-China war and Jung waterfalls. Reach Tawang. Check in hotel. Overnight
at hotel in Tawang.
Day
5: Tawang
Visit the world's 2nd biggest Tawang Monastery of Mahayana sect of Buddhism
which is more than 400 years old. It is situated at an altitude of 4450
meters. Also visit the various nunneries like the Bramha Dungchung Ani
Gompa. Later proceed to visit the Pakang Teng Tso Lake and the Tiger Den
(Tak-Tsang) Gompa. Overnight at hotel in Tawang.
Day 6: Tawang - Bomdilla
After breakfast drive back to Bomdila (190 km). Check in hotel. Visit
the apple orchards, wild orchids and Buddhist Gompas. Check out the craft
centre here and also the tiny bazaar. Overnight at hotel in Bomdilla.
Day 7: Bomdilla - Tezpur
In the morning proceed for Tezpur (155 km) located on the river Brahmaputra.
Tezpur in Sanskrit means City of Blood. Tezpur is the most beautiful city
in Assam. Visit Hari-Hara battle field of the epic Ramayana, Maha Bhairavi
Temple and the Parbatia Darwaza which bears testimony of the Gupta empire.
Overnight at hotel in Tezpur.
Day 8: Tezpur - Guwahati - Onwards
Drive back to Guwahati (180km) and proceed to airport / station for onward
journey.
