Panaji, the capital of Goa is a small town, laid out on a grid pattern
overlooked by the Latino (hill) to the south which offered defensive advantages.

Places
of InterestThe riverside boulevard (Deanna Bagdodra Marg) runs from
the new Patton bridge, past the jetties, to the formerly open fields of
Campal. Along it there are some of the town's main administrative buildings.

Idalcao Palace: Once the castle of Adil Shahs it was rebuilt by the
Portuguese in1615 and until 1759 it was the Viceregal Palace, in 1843 it
became the Secretariate and now houses passport office.

eastern promontory, beyond the hill, is the
ST.THOME quarter with
its traditional 18th and19th century houses. Other places of interest are
MINT and
SEBASTIAN CHAPEL.MIRAMAR, DONA PAULA
and
VAINGUINIM are three beaches near Panaji.
