Arrive at Mfuwe airport where you will be met by Nkwali staff and transferred to camp for your two night stay.
Nkwali is located on Robin Pope's private land, overlooking the National Park. This beautiful area of ebony woodland and open grassland offers superb game viewing. Elephants regularly cross the Luangwa, which can be seen from the mahogany shaded bar, or they come to drink at the waterhole near the thatched dining room. The 6 chalets, overlooking the river, are cool and spacious and each has an open-air en suite bathroom. Access to the park is by boat or Nkwali's pontoon. The area is famous for leopard and the indigenous Thornicroft's giraffe. Activities include game walks and day and night drives.
The Luangwa valley marks the end of the Great Rift Valley and its natural beauty, variety and concentration of wildlife make this one of the finest Parks in Africa. It is one of the last unspoilt wilderness areas and as much of it is closed during the rainy season, each year it has the opportunity to become "wild" once again. The Park covers an area of over 9050 sq kms (3490 sq mile), through which the meandering Luangwa River runs. The oxbow lagoons, woodland and plains of the valley host huge concentrations of game - including elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion, giraffe, hippo - and over 400 species of birds.
