Duration : 9 Days

Day 1
Arrival at Lisbon’s International Airport at times and flights to be informed by Hospitality Worldwide Tours. Private Air conditioning coach and our English speaking guide to meet the group and straight transfer to the hotel. Check-in at the Hotel and eventually time at leisure for lunch.
For the afternoon, we suggest a visit to the Alfama quarter, the most typical quarter of Lisbon. Alfama - the name of this neighbourhood derives from the Arabic word for "hot springs". In fact, it was said that the water gushing from these springs possessed miraculous powers. It’s Lisbon’s oldest and most typical neighbourhood. A picturesque mélange of narrow streets, cul-de-sacs, lots of steps, patios, colourful flowerpots, etc., in all, it contains 699 houses. During the tour, you will take a look at the historic neighbourhood (bairro in Portuguese) of Alfama, with its own legends and stories, while catching a glimpse of the daily life of local people. We have introduced what we consider to be less "trodden" paths into this program, but richer ones from a tourist standpoint.
Recently it has gone through a facelift without the romantic view over the city and Rio Tejo loosing its original charm.

Driving towards West side of Lisbon, will arrive to the historical Belém Quarter, a pleasant riverside area, linked with the Portuguese Navigations, and where the most famous Lisbon’s landmarks are located: The Monastery of Jerónimos (visit), the Belém Tower and Discoveries Monument with Caravel’s shape (old sailing boat) and dedicated to the great Prince Henry “The Navigator”. Lunch at leisure. After lunch, departure to Sintra. One of the most famous places in Portugal, Sintra is very near to Lisbon and can be reached by road in about half an hour. Sintra is noted for its remarkable vegetation and for its connection with a long line of Englishmen. Byron lived here on its visits to Portugal and a number of highly eccentric men and women made it their home in the last century. There is a complete change in vegetation from Lisbon or Estoril and Cascais. The Serra de Sintra, a range of hills rising straight from the plain that stretches to the sea, appears to be a good deal higher than it is in reality, owing to the serrated nature of the summits and the fact that there are no foothills. Sintra is a small village built against the northern slope of the “Serra de Sintra” mountains. Sintra is well known by its charming narrow roads enveloped in lush greenery, its climbing flowers and the semi-tropical vine-like plants trailing from mossy walls and balconies. Noble houses and palaces with walled gardens and stately courtyards are scattered throughout the forested hills, revelling in the soft, cool microclimate that the mountain position brings upon the town and the surrounding area.On our way To Lisbon, stop at Cascais for a walking tour and panoramic tour to Estoril. Return to Lisbon after visits. Dinner and overnight at the Hotel.

Day 3
Breakfast at the Hotel’s restaurant at leisure. Check-out from the Hotel At time to be set, meet your guide and coach and departure to Arrábida.Lunch at Leisure. Day 4
Breakfast at the Hotel’s restaurant at leisure. Check-out from the Hotel Departure to Santarém. Standing on a ridge above the River Tagus, the historic city of Santarém is one of the earliest and most interesting places in the region. Known as Praesidium Julium by the Romans, it was once one of the strongest fortresses in Portugal, thanks to its prominent position overlooking the extensive Ribatejan plains. In the middle of the 7th century, the body of Santa Iria (St Irene) was brought here and soon afterwards the town was captured by the Moors, eventually being retaken by the Christians in the 12th century. Today, Santarém is an important agricultural centre, famous for its annual 10-day fair at the beginning of June. During the walking tour you will see the 14th-century Graça Church with its spectacular rose window carved from a single stone. It also contains the tomb of Pedro Alvares Cabral, the navigator who discovered Brazil in 1500. Founded by King Sancho in the 13th century, the convent church of São Francisco boasts a fine west door and a Gothic cloister. The multi-windowed Baroque edifice of the Church of the Seminary was built by João IV for the Jesuits in 1640 on the site of a royal palace. Its vast interior features a painted wooden ceiling and marble and gilt ornamentation. Boasting a fine Manueline portal, the Church of Marvila on Rua 1 de Dezembro is lined with impressive 17th-century diamond-patterned azulejo glazed tile panels. Your last stop will be at the walls of the ancient Portas do Sol citadel afford an inspiring view of the surrounding Ribatejan landscape.
Lunch at Leisure.
Departure to Tomar.

Day 5
Breakfast at the Hotel’s restaurant at leisure. Walking tour in Fátima. Built in 1928 with local limestone, in neo-baroque style, the Sanctuary includes the monumental Basilica and two lateral wings. It is known as the " Altar for the world ". In this shrine is perpetuated the Apparition of Our Lady to Jacinta, Francisco and Lúcia _ the three shepherd children of Fátima. On the 13th May 1917, while they were watching a small flock of sheep graze in Cova da Iria, the children saw a strong flash of light, out of which came an even brighter light that rested in a small oak. The Virgin was illuminated in the light, and she asked the children to pray and invited them to return in the following months. The local of the apparitions was marked with a wooden arch and with a cross. The little tree was vanished, bit-by-bit, took by the pilgrims. On the 6th August 1918, the construction of a little chapel began with the help of people’s charity. This chapel, homage to Our Lady, was built with stone and chalk, covered with tile. It was the first construction in the actual site of prayers, measuring 3,30 meters long, 2,80 meters large and 2,85 meters high. The Sanctuary of Fátima receives many millions of believers on pilgrimage and praying, from all over the world. The most important date of the year is the 13th May, the Annual Pilgrimage, and all the 13th of each month from May to October. Lunch at leisure.

Our day will continue with a tour to the small town of Batalha. Here we will visit the spectacular Batalha Monastery. It is the most striking symbol of the Avis Dynasty. It is the result of a vow made to the Virgin by King John I after beating the Castilian army at the Battle of Aljubarrota (1385). Works started one year later under the Portuguese architect Afonso Domingos, many of the church structures and the two wings on the main cloister being his work. The project underwent a radical change in 1402. A foreign architect, who may have come from Catalonia, Master Huguet, led the building works and gave the Monastery a Flamboyant Gothic style. This new phase is apparent in the church vaulting, the Chapter-House dome, the Capela do Fundador (Founder's Chapel) and also in the beginning of the construction of the Capelas Imperfeitas (Imperfect Chapels). The construction of the "afonsine" Gothic Cloister of King Afonso V, of restrained look, in the mid-15th century, by the architect Fernão de Évora, was a reaction against the exuberance of the Flamboyant Gothic style. During King Manuel's reign the windows of the cloister galleries were closed and the works in the Imperfect Chapels were retaken. This project went on until the third decade of the 16th century, and the style reflects the Italian Renaissance; however, it was suddenly abandoned because of the demands made by other royal buildings then being built

Day 6
Breakfast at the Hotel’s restaurant at leisure. Check-out from the Hotel. Morning at leisure in Fátima. Departure towards Coimbra. Lunch at leisure.
We will visit the old part of the city – the University and the Cidade Velha. Coimbra, capital of the Beira Litoral province, is one of the most fascinating cities in Portugal, formed around the University (panoramic visit), which was founded in 1290, at about the same time that the schools in Oxford and Cambridge assumed similar status. The city is built on a hill, going down to the River Mondego, wide in the winter rains, a mere trickle of water between sandbanks in the summer. Rising north of Guarda, the Mondego is the only one of Portugal’s great rivers to rise in Portugal.
After visits, departure towards Canas de Senhorim.
Check-in at the Hotel.
Dinner and overnight at the Hotel.

Day 7
Breakfast at the Hotel’s restaurant at leisure. Check-out from the Hotel. Our tour will continue along the Douro Region, through its main villages. It is in the area that the famous Port wine is produced.

Day 8
Breakfast at the Hotel’s restaurant at leisure. Check-out from the Hotel. Departure towards Aveiro, our little Venice. “ In the testamentary donation document given by countess Mumadona Dias to the monastery of Guimarães on 26th January 959, there is a reference to “Suis terras in Alauario et Salinas”, which is the oldest known form of the toponym “Aveiro”. In the 13th Century Aveiro was given the category of town, developing around the main church consecrated to Saint Miguel and located on today’s “Praça da República”. It was demolished in 1835. The first known charter of Aveiro is Manueline (related to King Manuel I) and dates from 4th August 1515, reported in the book “Livro de Leituras Novas de Forais da Estremadura”. The magnificent geographical situation favoured from early stages the settlement of people. Salt making, fishing and sea trade were the main factors of development.
At the end of the 16th and early 17th centuries the instability of the vital connection between the lagoon and the sea caused the closure of the canal, blocking the use of the port and bringing up illness caused by the stagnation of the water of the lagoon. The result was a decrease of the population (many emigrated building fishing settlements along the Portuguese coast) and big economic and social crisis. However, it was curiously at this recession stage and under the Spanish rule of King Filipe, that one of the most magnificent churches of the town- the Igreja da Misericórdia- was built. In 1759 Aveiro was given the category of city by King José I. In the 19th Century highlight are the active participation of citizens of Aveiro in the Liberal fights and José Estêvão Coelho de Magalhães, Member of Parliament who had a major role in the fixation of the sea bar and the development of transports (particularly the passage of the railway line Lisbon-Oporto), essential works for the development of the city which is nowadays considered one of the most important ones in the country.
After lunch at leisure, departure to Lisbon.
