Getting wrecked Bali, Indonesia
The pebble-strewn black sand of Tulamben Bay stretches out on the northeast coast of Bali. Just a few metres from the shore lies Indonesia’s most popular diving wreck and maybe the most frequently dived wreck in the world the LISAT Liberty, an impressive 100m long remnant of World War 11. Between 150-200 divers visit the site every day. The site is typical of the richness of Indonesia’s marine biodiversity, though the ease of diving a wreck lying at a depth of between 5 and 30m has a lot to do with its popularity. The bow of the vessel lies just 30m from the shore, so even snorkellers can enjoy themselves on the wreck.
The most obvious attraction on the wreck is the sheer number and variety of fish. Sergeant-majors, damselfish, crescent wrasse and unicorn fish often swim right up to divers to enquireabout a free feed. Bigger fish — humphead parrotfish, Napoleon wrasse, oriental sweetlip, rabbitfish, coral trout and grouper — often hover nearby.
