Another important centre of attraction in the Patan Durbar complex is the eight-storey temple of Degu Tale. The god of Degu Tale had been the family god of the Malla Kings. Degu Tale was honoured and treated as the Royal God during the reign of Malla kings. Constructed in the typical Newari architectural style, this huge eight-storeyed temple is set on a single plinth. In entire Kathmandu, there is no temple as tall as the Degu Tale temple. The credit to construct this great and massive structure goes to the King of Patan, Siddhi Narsingh Malla. The temple was constructed in the year 1640 AD. However, this historical temple of medieval architecture got burnt in the year 1697 AD. Very soon it was renovated by Sri Niwas Malla and the son of Siddhi Narsingh Malla.

Decorated with a large number of artistic and attractive doors and windows, this magnificent temple is constructed in the Pagoda style. In the ground floor, there are four doors and eight windows: one door and two windows at each side of the different walls of the temple. Similarly in the first floor, there are three windows at each side of the temple wall. In the second floor, there are two screen windows and one tikan jhya at each side of the wall. The third floor is surrounded by a little balcony which is embroidered by the minute work of screen windows. The fourth floor has a beautiful metallic door and it has one round window at each side of the gate. In other walls of this floor, there are wooden doors and windows. In the fifth floor of this temple, there are some twelve stempnums, one at every corner and rest at other places. This floor has also a number of screen windows at several places.

Similarly in the sixth floor, there are twelve screen windows, four struts at each corner, and six artistic struts at each direction. In the seventh floor, i.e. the top floor, there are seven screen windows, one at each side, one strut at every corner, and two artistic stempnums in every direction. Hence one can say that Degu Tale temple is a structure of wooden doors, windows struts and stempnums. It is a fine work of contemporary woodcraft.
