About the Park
Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the state Rajasthan and covers an
area of 765.80 sq.km in the Aravali range. It was declared a wildlife sanctuary
in 1958 and came under the "
Project Tiger" in the year 1979.
There are also some historical monuments within the park that symbolizes the
rich past of this area. It is famous for its varied species of flora & fauna
and the scenic beauty of Aravali range.
Climate
The Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary experiences a extreme weather condition. During Summer (April - June) the temperature rises up to 38.4 degrees C and in Winter months (October to March) the temperature drops to 15 degrees C. It does not receive much rainfall during monsoon. October to June is the best period to visit the sanctuary.
Wildlife Attractions in Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary
Flora : The forest of Sariska is generally dry deciduous
type with Dhok, Khair, Tendu, Ber, Surwal, and Goria are the major tree species
which remain lush & green during monsoon & dry in summer.
Fauna : Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary is known for its tiger
reserves. Other wildlife of the forest include Leopard, Wild Dog, Jungle Cat,
Hyena, Jackal, Tiger, Sambar, Chittal, Nilgai, Wild Boar and Langur.
Sariska Widlife Sanctuary
Avifauna : The park is an excellent place for birdwatching
with a numerous bird species including peacocks, Peafowl, White Breasted Kingfisher,
Wood peckers, Partridges, Quails, Tree Pies, Eagles, Parakeets and Vultures.
Other Attractions
Kanwari Fort : It is a famous hostoric monument located within
the sanctuary, where , Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb had imprisoned his brother
Dara Shikoh.
Shiva Temple : There is ruins of an ancient Shiva temple
dated back to 6th - 13th century AD located within the sanctuary which offers
a great sight to visit.
Palace : Another major attraction near Sariska is the Palace
built by Maharaja of Alwar and has now been converted in to a hotel.
Park Trips
The best way to explore the sanctuary is in your own vehicle with an authorised guide. Jeep Safari is also another way and you can hire a jeep from your hotel or from the local operators.
How To Get There
Air : The nearest airport is at Jaipur which is at a distance
of 107 km from Sariska.
Rail : Alwar railway station is the nearest and at a distance
of 37 km.
Road : The wildlife sanctuary is well connected to Delhi
(200km), Jaipur (107km) and some other cities in & around Rajasthan by a good
motorable road network.
