The very name Varq refers to the edible gold and silver foil traditionally used to embellish certain Indian sweets, rich biryanis and curries, and calls to mind refinement and luxury. The restaurant’s ambience and culinary style is both modern and traditional Indian.
It takes over from Haveli, the former Indian cuisine restaurant at the Taj Mahal that retains a few touches from the old eatery 4ike the now restored Anjolie Ela.Menon mural. But the new elements such as the emphasis on presentation, the gold leaf work on the ceiling to establish the Varq connection, the red beaded drum-like chandeliers and specially created music by Ayaan and Amaan Ali Bangash define the Varq experience.
There is no fusion confusion in the menu. This is modern Indian food, which retains traditional flavours. Appetizers such as Ganderi Kebab and Kukkad Chaat, Khurmani Ke Kebabs stand out because they are a presentation of old dishes in a new way.
