Day 1
Gatwick/San Jose: Continental Airlines non-stop to Houston or New York, with onward connection. Melia Cariari Hotel. (RO)
Day 2
San Jose/Tamarindo: Fly to Tamarindo. Afternoon at leisure. Tamarindo Diria Hotel. (8)
Day 3
Tamarindo: Choose from either a half day tour of the Tamarindo Mangroves or a half day horseback riding. (8)
Day 4
Tamarindo: Full day at leisure to relax on the beach or partake in optional excursions. (B)
Day 5
Tamarindo/Monteverde: Travel through the dry forest of the Nicoya Peninsula with lunch en route. Upon arrival visit the Hummingbird gallery and cheese factory. Belmar Hotel. (8, L)
Day 6
Monteverde: Morning guided walk of the Cloud Forest Reserve. In the afternoon enjoy a spectacular ‘Sky Walk’ through the forest canopy. (8)
Day 7
Monteverde/Arenal: Travel to the breathtaking Arenal Lake and admire the majestic volcano. Afternoon at leisure to enjoy the surroundings of the Chachagua Rain Forest Resort. (8, L, D)
Day 8
Arenal: Choose from a trip to the Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge, an important wetland region or an evening visit to Arenal Volcano, hopefully to witness some gentle volcanic activity, and the nearby Hot Springs for a swim and dinner. (8, L, D)
Day 9
Arenal/San Jose: Return to the capital via Sarchi, a famous handicrafts centre. Melia Cariari Hotel. (8, L)
Day 10
San Jose/Sarapiqui: Enjoy the ‘hanging garden’ as you ride the Rainforest Aerial Tramway. Continue to Sarapiqui to take a glimpse into pre-Columbian history. Overnight Centro Neotropico SarapiquiS. (B, L, D)
Day 11
Sarapiqui: Enjoy a half day exploring the Sarapiqui River, fantastic birdlife, and wonderful countryside. (8, L, D)
Day 12
Sarapiqui/Tortuguero: Transfer to Limon where you board your boat for the three-hour (approx) journey through the canals to the National Park. Afternoon at leisure. A seasonal (Jul to Sep) optional evening turtle nesting watching tour costs approx (payable locally). Mawamba Lodge. (B, L, D)
Day 13
Tortuquero: Enjoy an early morning boat tour through the canals, followed by breakfast and, later, a hiking trip. Afternoon exploration of these fascinating canals (8, L, D)
Day 14
