HOTEL THE STANLEY
The Stanley
Upholding a fresh image, the flagship of the Sarova properties in East Africa reverts to its original name in the silver jubilee year of the Karuki-Sarova group, which owns it. The New Stanley in Nairobi is now simply The Stanley, and its century-old revolving doors open a world of sink-in comfort and elegance. The foyer with its marbled surfaces, antique brass, leather and turn-of the-century photographs reflects the birth of this hotel in 1902. Sans, of course, the piles of safari luggage and queues for exchange and travel advice!
The now five star hotel, in the commercial district on the major Kenyatta Avenue, has been totally refurbished at a cost of … million. This was announced by senior director J.S.Vohra to a team of journalists from India over a futuristic meal at its Zen restaurant. Apart from the newly-introduced fusion food which melds Mediterranean and Pacific flavors, the hotel combines old-time courtesies and decorative touches with up-to-date facilities.
The 217 individually air-conditioned rooms, twin sharing), club rooms, suites and presidential penthouse have direct e-mail access. Rooms and public areas such as the Grand Ballroom, conference rooms, etc are fitted with smoke detectors and sprinklers.

On it were messages stuck by people from far and near. Today, a young thorn tree, the third in the line, flaunts a website. Protected by see-through glass, the cafe is safe and as lively a place as when it opened to the pavement.
