(1) It is simple as well as bacteria free.
(2) Available all the times.
(3) Mother need not worry that how much milk she should give, child can have his feed till he is happy and satisfied.
(4) It is economical.
(5) Fats of mother's milk are better emulsified hence easily digestible. It ha4.00 better proportion of lactalbumin which is more digestible than casein.
(6) It has low osmotic load specially in case of premature child it is very good.
(7) It gives passive immunity to the baby. Milk which is secreted immediately after delivery i.e. Colostrum is rich in antibodies.
(8) It prevents diarrhoea by interfering growth of E.Coli. as it has lactobacilli in it.
(9) Mother have a feeling of satisfaction and achievement. Psychologically it makes her and her child happier.
(C) WHEN MOTHERS CAN NOT BREAST FEED THEIR BABIES
:
Inspite of many advantages we see that every day bottles are replacing breasts which can due to many reasons. Usual causes for giving the bottle to the baby are :
(1) Death of mother at or soon after birth.
(2) Illness in the mother or baby.
(3) Next pregnancy. This is wrong belief that the milk is harmful to the babies and for this reason breast feeding should not be stopped.
(4) Working mothers or mothers which go out for any other reason stop it.
(5) At time when child cries during feeding then mothers conclude that her milk is not enough or causes abdominal pain in the baby.
(6) In case of low birth-weight-babies also, mothers change them to bottle feeding as they find it much easier than the breast.
(7) Lack of confidence in breast feeding particularly when it is the 1st baby.
(8) A mother who doesn't have time and she hands over the bottle to someone else in the family.
(9) The advertisements of tinned milk or other baby milk product etc which claims to produce healthy babies have a marked influence.
(10) At times it is done by an illitrate health worker.
