Located to the south-west of Marsabit, across the Kaisut Desert, the 1,735square-kilometre (694-square-mile) Losai National Reserve is an area of impenetrable mountain forest on the north-eastern edge of the central highlands.
The Great North road runs through the eastern section, but it is a wild area and is generally inaccessible, except by four-wheel drive vehicle in the dry season.
