Besides Panna, some other districts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhatisgarh have also been focused by recent surveys. The State Governments have therefore decided to get the following other districts explored for diamonds: Raipur, Bastar, Durg, Rajnandgaon, Bilaspur, Raigarh, Sarguja, Sidhi, Satna and Chhatarpur.

Besides De Beers, who have floated a wholly owned subsidiary in India for diamond mining, the top Indian diamond manufacturing and exporting house of B. Vijaykumar also proposes to enter diamond mining. The State Mining Corporation of Madhya Pradesh also proposes to form joint ventures with private companies for regular prospecting and mining.

A new State - Chhatisgarh was carved out of Madhya Pradesh on November 1st 2000. Although the main diamond producing area- Panna, still remains in Madhya Pradesh, two districts - Raipur and Bastar, out of the sixteen the new State has inherited, are known to have diamandiferrous pipes, which are yet to be explored and exploited.
