GEOGRAPHY
The Indian landmass is roughly divided into four regions. The north is dominated by the Himalaya, which are the focus of most of the country’s commercial adventure travel operations. The main feature of the south is the Indian peninsula, which forms an inverted triangle with the hills of the Western Ghats on one side and a fertile coastal plain on the other. In the northeast of India lies the fertile alluvial plain of the Ganges which runs into the sea in the Sundarban coastal area, shared with Bangladesh. On the opposite side of the country in the northwest lies the Thar Desert near the border with Pakistan.
