Northernmost district of Kerala, it is situated on the sea coast 420 km
from Cochin and 50 km from Mangalore. There is a fort at CHANDRAGIRI built
in the 17th century by Sivappa Nayaka of Bedanore who established his authority
over the area and built a chain of forts. A mosque is situated nearby and
there is an ancient Kizhur State temple. GOVINDA PAl MEMORIAL of the great
Patriarch of Kannda literature is situated at Manjeswaram. There are also
15 mosques at Manjeswaram. .

Madiyankulam
Temple: Temple dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali is situated near
Kanjangad in Hosdurg. BEKAL, 16 km from Kasargod, is one of the most
beautiful beaches in Kerala. Fort at Bekal is of great historical and
Archaeological interest and is one of the largest and best preserved one in
Kerala.
Periyar National Park: Periyar is
one of India's most picturesque national parks. It has a picturesque lake at
the heart of the sanctuary. Formed with the building of a dam in 1895, this
resevior meanders around the contours of the wooded hills, providing a
perennial source of water for the local wildlife. Though one of India's 16
tiger reserves, Periyar is best known for its large population of elephants.
Among the unusual species found at Periyar are the flying lizards and the
flying snakes. Lake attracts varieties of birds. Boats are the only means of
exploring Periyar. Nearest airport to reach the sanctuary is Madurai (145
km), Cochin (190 km) railhead - Kottayam (114 km)
