Today, we are able to share in the secrets that were hidden from the world
for so long; marvellous secrets such as the mediaeval wooden buildings dotted
around Kathmandu and the incredible Potala Palace of Lhasa. We shall see the
pilgrims prostrating themselves at temples and monasteries and meet many of
the friendly local people on this journey “Across the Roof of the World’.
SUNDAY DEPARTURES
ITINERARY
1st day
Evening departure from London Heathrow by PIA flying to Kathmandu via Karachi.
2nd day
Arrive Kathmandu in the afternoon and transfer to the Yak and Yell Hotel.
3rd day
Morning city tour including a visit to Swayambhunath which overlooks the Kathmandu
Valley.
4th day
Morning tour of the Kathmandu valley including Bodhnath noted for its large
Stupa, the holy Hindu temples of Pasupatinath and the mediaeval town of Bhaktapur.
Afternoon at leisure
5th and 6th day
At leisure. An optional visit to Palen city or a scenic drive along the terraced
hillsides to Kakani for views of the Himalayas, could be arranged.
7th day
Morning flight across the mightiest mountain range in the world, the Himalayas,
to Tibet. Leaving behind the lush Nepalese valleys we pass over snow capped
peaks and continue over the beautiful yet barren Tibetan plateau, On arrival
at Gonggar Airport we will be met and transferred to Lhasa (12,000 ft) and our
accommodation at the Holiday Inn.
6th to 13th day
Six days’ sightseeing in Tibet during which time we will visit the holy
Jokhang Monastery, where Buddhist pilgrims dock from all over Tibet, the Norbulingka,
the former summer palace of the Dalai Lamas, Drepung, the largest monastery
in the world and the
14th day
Fly via Chengdu to Beijing and transfer to the Holiday Inn Lido.
15th day
At leisure until the evening flight by British Airways to London. Alternatively
extend in Beijing. Please, ask for details.
16th day
Arrive London Heathrow in the morning.
MEALS:
Half board in Kathmandu. Full board in Tibet. Breakfast only in Beijing.
