DAY 09 Singapore
American
Breakfast in the morning. Today, we will bring you round the
city to famous landmarks in Singapore. First, we head down to
the Padang where the Supreme Court sits majestically. The
Supreme Court is one of the last colonial buildings that are
erected in Singapore. It is also the place that has marked
many historical moments of Singapore. Such as, the surrender
of Japanese during World War II and the declaration of
Singapore's Independence in 1965. Next, we stop at the Merlion
Park. Get ready your camera to take a picture or two with the
Merlion Statue - most symbolic of Singapore. Currently just
re-located to its new site, it is believe in geomancy that its
new auspicious position overlooking the Singapore River, will
bring about great blessings and fortune to ensure Singapore's
continued progress and prosperity into the 21st century. Over
here, you will also get to see the new Fullerton hotel - a
beautiful architecture converted from the formal Head Post
Office of Singapore. Stroll down the park and you will find
yourself at The Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay. With its
innovative spiky dome architecture (hence fondly dubbed by
locals as "The Durian"), it is the latest addition
to the local scene. Open on October 2002 amidst much fanfare
and pomposity, it aims to be a world-class theatre staging
international performances. After the scenic stroll along the
river, hop on the bus again for the next destination -
Chinatown. This is the place where most Chinese immigrants
settled down when they first arrived in Singapore during the
19th century. Today, it is one of the preserved areas of
Singapore, with its old shop houses that were built during the
early days. Over here, there are many shops pedaling
interesting knick-knacks that will make great memorabilia or
gifts for love ones back home. At the same time, you will also
be able to catch a sight of the regal Sri Mariamman temple, as
well as the Thian Hock Keng Chinese temple - these are the
oldest Hindu and Chinese temples in Singapore. After capturing
the historical sights of Singapore, it is time for some
bargain shopping. We visit the Wholesale Jewellery Centre
where artisans will give a fascinating demonstration of
jewellery handcrafting. And if there is anything that should
catch your fancy, then strike a deal. Last but not least, we
take a ride up the to the Mount Faber. At 117 metres above
hill, it offers a breath-taking sight of the Singapore island.
Again, its time to show-off your white pearlies in front of
the camera with a memorable shot. With this, we put a full
stop to the entire City Experience. Then experience a smooth
and efficient ride on the MRT train. The MRT, short for Mass
Rapid Transit, was launched in 1987. This marked a milestone
in the transportation system of Singapore. With its clean,
comfortable, efficient service, today it is the most common
commuting vehicle in Singapore. It's lunchtime again. Today,
we bring you to another fine Indian Restaurant for a
delectable spread of Northern Indian cuisine that is bound to
delight your taste buds. A trip to Singapore would not be
complete without a visit to the famous Sentosa Island.
Firstly, we hop on the cable car that will bring us across to
the island. At the same time, the ride will offer you a bird's
eye view of the bustling seaport. Next, we hop on the Monorail
that will bring us to the Wax Museum. The display of wax
figurines depicts the political history, as well as the
cultural and social developments of Singapore from a small
fishing village, to a robust, cosmopolitan city that it is
today. Then, we take a bus ride to the Underwater World. It is
one of Asia's most popular ocenariums. It has more than 2,500
marine animals from 250 species. Another highlight is the
Dolphin Lagoon, with its breed of mainly Pink Dolphin. Here,
you can observe these dolphins' natural behaviour, in a
habitat that is simulated closely to that of their original.
The Grand Finale - Magical Fountain. Formally known as Musical
Fountain, it underwent an overhaul recently and is now known
as Magical Fountain. It presents a whole new visual feast to
visitors of Sentosa. It combines ethereal 3-D images, sound
effect, as well as fire antics that will transcend audiences
through a beautiful fantasy. At the end of this fantasy, the
fountain will show off itself in its full glory. A spectacular
visual treat indeed! Evening enjoy Indian dinner. Overnight at
the hotel.
