Hotel in Gaya

At the new Ajatsatru Hotel (tel 22514) in Station Rd, just across from the rail station, basic but clean rooms are from Rs100. Just right out of the station is Pal Rest House, run by friendly Sikhs, with cheap but adequate rooms for Rs25. The Railway Retiring Rooms inside Gaya station itself are cheap and good. There are many other budget places in the station area.EATING OUT
Bihari cuisine is very simple—boiled rice, breads, lentils and vegetables steamed with hot spices; tattoo (a mixture of seven grains made into dough) and popular ‘snack’ kachoris (deep-fried wheat or lentil-flour balls) often eaten with kala chana (black gram). It’s all very cheap (Rs15-20), and best sampled at the Ajatsatru Hotel’s Sujata Restaurant or at the Station View Hotel and Restaurant. The old town is full of cheap and friendly roadside dhabas.

GENERAL INFORMATION
The tourist information centre (tel 20155) is in the rail station, and apparently open 6 am-9 pm.
